The team from Mandera Water & Sewerage Company and the Resident Engineer from the Water Sector Trust Fund met with local officials and community leaders in Elwak. The purpose of the visit was to officially hand over the site for the proposed improvement of the Elwak- Falama Water Supply Project.

The project aims to enhance the water supply infrastructure in Elwak by reducing cost of energy and improving in water supply coverage to the resident. This will involve:

  • Solarization of 6 Nr borehole and 2 No booster station at Falama the water
  • Construction of 2 No standard kiosk at El Agarsu & Qulati zone
  • Laying of 15.9km HDPE pipe line of various diameter,100 new water connections
  • Installations of chlorine dozing unit at Borehole 11,
  • Construction of 100 m3 ,10m high proposed elevated steel tank at El-Agarsu/Qulati zone to ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply for the community.

During the handover process, the team emphasized the importance of community involvement and participation in the project. They encouraged the residents of Elwak to actively participate in decision-making processes and to provide feedback and suggestions to ensure that the project meets their specific requirements.

The visit was seen as a significant step towards improving water supply in Elwak, which has been facing challenges due to lack water infrastructure and an increasing population.
