The Mandera Water and Sewerage Company Limited (MANDWASCO) targets to increase water revenue from Kshs 370,000 per month to Sh8.5 million.

The company’s 2019-2023 strategic plan says meter reading books, cashier records data, bill payment offices and mobile payment platforms would be introduced to increase revenue. MANDWASCO is to also embrace ICT in billing and revenue management.

The company which is Water Service Provider for Mandera County Government further plans to progressively reduce number of customers on flat rates payment to zero by 2023 with the installation of water consumption meters. A crackdown would also be conducted to weed out illegal water connections.

According to MANDWASCO, it targets to increase the number of customers connected to the sewerage system from none in 2019 to 2,120 in 2023. Revenue collections from sewerage services is projected to rise from zero in 2019 to Sh1.6 million in 2023.

The firm said it will lobby for compulsory sewerage connection of households where the services were available. A new water and sewer tariff is to be developed and adopted.

The company employees are to be well equipped to ease their operations in the drought-prone border county.
